オカルトサークルに所属する栗原は、後輩が教えてくれたブログの謎を解こうとする。
それはレンという男性が、妊娠している妻のユキの様子を綴っていく日記のようなものだった。
しかし、子供が生まれたときユキは亡くなってしまい、またとある真実に気づいたレンはブログの更新をやめてしまった。
ただ、読み返してみると、不可解な点がいくつも見つかる。
真実は、ユキが残した3枚の絵に隠されていた。
【第二章 部屋を襲う、もやの絵】
今野直美は今野優太と幸せな日々を過ごしているはずだった。
ある日優太が保育園で描いた絵には、笑顔で手を繋ぐ直美と優太の姿があった。
しかしその絵に描かれるマンション、二人が住んでいる部屋は灰色に塗りつぶされていたのである。
保育士の春岡は、直美が優太を虐待していると疑い始め…
そんなとき、直美は誰かに尾行されていると感じるようになる。
さらに優太も行方不明になってしまい…
【第三章 美術教師 最期の絵】
中学校で美術の教師をしている三浦義春が、山の中で遺体で見つかった。
殺人事件として捜査する中、三浦が遺した絵が見つかる。
第一発見者、三浦の生徒、友人、妻の証言を聞き、捜査したものの未解決となってしまったこの事件の真相を、明らかにしたい。
そう再捜査する岩田と熊井。

すべての出来事をまとめました。
すべての事件には今野直美が関係していたと言えます。
今野直美は父を亡くして母から虐待を受ける。
大切にしていた文鳥を殺されそうになり、母を殺してしまう。
その後書いたのが、A子ちゃんの”文鳥を守る樹の絵”だった。

成人して、美術教師 三浦と結婚した直美は武司を出産。
しかし三浦の自己中さ、行き過ぎたしつけから武司を守るために三浦を殺害。
三浦の友人である豊川に犯行がバレるが、運良く彼の転勤が決まり殺害を逃れる。
しかし、また事件が再捜査されていると知る。
そして三浦の教え子である美術部の亀戸由紀と出会う。

武司は由紀と結婚することになり、二人の間には子供ができた。
しかし直美は、自分がこのまま年老いていくのに嫌悪感を抱き「母親でいたい」という欲望が芽生え始める。
その結果由紀を殺してしまう。

孫 優太の母として暮らすが、記者 岩田に犯行を知られ、岩田を殺害。
最終的には岩田の上司 熊井の戦略によって逮捕される。
（直美が尾行されていると感じたのは、熊井が彼女の様子を伺っていたからだった）

由紀は美術部で三浦に教わっていました。
岩田が捜査に入ったとき、彼を殺したのは由紀かと疑われていましたが、犯人は今野直美。
武司と結婚し、直美の殺意に気づいていながらも亡くなってしまった由紀に、罪は無いといえるでしょう。
由紀とブログに登場していたユキは同一人物で、由紀が遺した3枚の絵が重ねられることで、直美が由紀を殺したことが明らかになりました。
