あらすじ（一部ネタバレ含む）
高校生の由紀と敦子は親友同士。
ある日ふたりは、親友の自殺を目撃したことがあるという転校生 紫織から話を聞く。
由紀は人が死ぬ瞬間を見てみたくなり、敦子は死体をみて死を語りたいと思った。
夏休み、互いには告げずに老人ホームと小児科病棟へボランティアに行くふたり。
それは全て、人の「死の瞬間」に立ち合うためだった。
ラスト、すべての出来事が一つになる。

結末を言ってしまうと、
由紀は病棟で昴・タッチーと距離を縮め、敦子は老人ホームにて高雄と働いていて、
お互いに死を見たい願望があり、そのための行動を重ねていきます。
実は昴と高雄は親子で、昴たちは痴漢をしたという高雄を憎み、殺人を企てていました。
高雄の痴漢は冤罪で、実際に殺人にはならなかったのですが。
それを見た二人は、死の瞬間を見たいんじゃないことに気がつき、またそれぞれを道を歩み始める話です。
由紀の小説を盗作した担任 小倉は、敦子の誹謗中傷的書き込みによって、恋人 セーラを失います。
自身も自殺。その瞬間を由紀の恋人 牧瀬が偶然目撃してしまったのです。
紫織は嘘チカンで高雄の家庭を崩壊させましたが、父が由紀にわいせつ行為をし、告発されたためにいじめられて自殺。
由紀と敦子・紫織と星羅（セーラ）は親友同士だったのです。
フィクションだからこそ味わえるスリルが詰まっています。
ラストには点と点が一本の線で結ばれたような、すっきりとした余韻が残りました。

セーラの正体
紫織の親友であり、小倉と援交関係にありました。
終章、紫織が「セーラ」の名前を出したことで、由紀が違和感を覚えたという描写がありました。
そこで、紫織とセーラ、小倉が繋がっていたことが明らかになります。
由紀の左手の傷の原因
由紀の左手は握力３だと語られています。
これは、認知症の祖母からの暴力が原因です。
祖母とは、敦子の老人ホームの「水森さん」と同一人物です。
具体的に、何で傷つけられたかは書かれていませんが、家族は「ガラスで切った」と嘘をつくようにいいます。
そして、由紀は感情を失くしていきました。
フジオカさんの正体
由紀の祖母 水森さんは、頻繁にものさしを振り回して「藤岡！」と叫んでいました。
この藤岡とは、水森さん（元教師）の「教え子」です。
『ウサギを食べた犬を殺してもなんとも思わない人』
と文中には書かれています。
昴・タッチーと高雄の関係
昴・タッチーは共に友達思いの友人です。
小児科病棟で、重い病気と闘っていました。
確認ですが、昴は小柄な男の子・タッチーは肉まんのような太った子。
ではありません！
ふたりは由紀に嘘をつき、入れ替わっていたので、本当は
昴が肉まんのような太った子・タッチーは小柄な男の子
です。
昴と高雄が親子だったのです。
「ヨルの綱渡り」ハナシの真相
由紀の小説は、小倉に盗作されて文芸誌に掲載されます。
その小説「ヨルの綱渡り」は、敦子をモデルに書かれたものでした。
由紀は敦子へ、
敦子は今、暗闇のなかを、ひとりぼっちで綱渡りしてるような気持ちになってるかも知れないけど、絶対にそんなことないから。
本文より
と語ります。
それを聞いた敦子は、自分を小説のネタにされたと嫌悪感を抱いていました。
それは勘違いで、由紀は敦子を元気付けようとしていたのが明らかになります。
「ヨルの綱渡り」ではラスト、実はヨルが歩いていた綱はただ大きな橋の上に置かれただけのもので、ヨルは綱渡りなんかしてなかった、ことが語られます。
つまり由紀は、「敦子はひとりぼっちじゃないんだよ」と伝えたかったのです。
なぜ高雄は人見知りなのか
老人ホームで出会った高雄と敦子。
敦子は高雄と話をしても、単語しか返ってこず、疑問を抱いていました。
これは、高雄が紫織に「嘘チカン」で訴えられたことが原因です。
冤罪なのに、女子高生の意見を採用され、家庭崩壊までを経験した高雄。
そのため、女子高生の敦子とも話せず、信用できなかったのです。
これは、敦子が高雄の家で「ヨルの綱渡り」を読む出来事ののちに明かされました。
